A 7-kilometre stretch of the Rideau Canal Skateway is open from Rideau Street to Dows Lake.
Ice conditions this afternoon are good with some patchy rough areas. Please note however, that there is a light snow cover on the skateway.
A complete ploughing and sweeping was completed this morning.
The NCC is working to open the remaining section of the world’s largest skating rink, from Dows Lake to the Hartwell Locks, as soon as ice conditions are safe.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ACCESS TO THE RIDEAU CANAL SKATEWAY IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA HAS BEEN MODIFIED DUE TO ONGOING CONSTRUCTION WORK
On the east side of the Rideau Canal, near Rideau Street, the public has two access points to the Skateway via a marked route:
- Temporary stairs behind the Government Conference Centre;
- Stairs in front of Daly Avenue.
Access to the Rideau Canal Skateway is also available near the Laurier Bridge. Barricades are in place to ensure public safety.
The NCC invites the public to use alternate routes to access the Skateway such as the stairs on the west side of the Canal at the National Arts Centre or near Confederation Park where ramp access is available.
The NCC urges pedestrians and motorists to exercise caution, obey the signage and expect occasional delays as they will continue to be affected by work in this area.

Due to snow accumulation on the skate track during the night, a complete ploughing and sweeping was completed early this morning.

A 7-kilometre stretch of the Rideau Canal Skateway is open from Rideau Street to Dows Lake.

- Fair from Rideau Street to the Concord Street Rest Area (located south of the Corktown Bridge)

A mid-day sweep will begin at 1pm.
Last night the skate track was flooded from Rideau Street to Dows Lake.
